Notes from Leigh Anne

I went cruising around Cartersville yesterday with my Girlfriend and fellow Realtor Deborah Hall. We toured a lot of subdivisions and saw a lot of construction that is coming out of the ground. I took pictures for all of you to see what we covered on our tour.

As of today, I've posted slide shows on my blog and my website. My website contains a bit more information about each subdivision than the blog so if you want more info and/or directions check out the subdivision tab on my website http://www.leighanneshepard.com/.

Remember, if you have a certain subdivision you would like to see on here - please let me know!

City of Cartersville Citizen Survey 2007

I found this survey on the Internet as I was doing a bit of research and thought I would post it here. It is current - responses were made after I-hop opened but before Chili's. It is rather interesting. The questions posed are where would you like to see Cartersville in the year 2030. Each response is written out. Many people ask for malls, more shopping, even free wi-fi in the downtown area. While others want to keep Cartersville small with the small town atmosphere, lots of green space. All seem to agree on the fact there needs to be a solution to the traffic problem! Click on the Title and it will take you to the survey so you can read it yourself.

Countrywide Buyout

Looks like Countrywide is the latest buyout. Bank of America Corp. has announced they are in fact buying Countrywide. The grapevine has buzzed about this since the first of the year. Countrywide carries billions in mortgages and were reaching a critical level with their foreclosure rates. According to Massachusetts congressman Barney Frank, the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, this could be a positive to help improve the current real estate economy. Click on the title "Countrywide Buyout" to be taken to this article from CNNMoney.com

I'm taking a new class at Keller Williams about improving your business. I probably have heard a lot of the things they have to say but I always find a few nuggets that make it all worthwhile. As always, I strive to stay current on the real estate market so that I can bring you up to date information on anything you need to know!

Subdivisions

I think I have all the kinks worked out on my "subdivisions" tab on my website. I have the pictures up and running plus Google maps to give everyone directions to see the subdivisions if they like the pictures.
I plan to expand the subdivision tours over the next few months so be sure to keep checking back to see the new tours I post. I will post them on the blog as well as the website - that way if you miss it in one location you can see it in another!
If you have a subdivision you want me to post a tour on - please let me know and I'll try to get to it ASAP!

Slide Shows

I've learned to do slide shows and it was surprisingly easy!! I have a new feature on my website that I hope is a popular addition. I am posting pictures of the different subdivisions so that people are able to see a little more of the subdivision than just the front elevations of a certain house. If you have a subdivision that you would like to see on here, please let me know so I can put it on the top of my list!

Check out my Slide Show!

Reverse Mortgages

I saw a report this morning on Good Morning America on reverse mortgages. I've also seen a lot of ads for them lately as well. So I am posting a link to the GMA report.

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/MellodyHobson/story?id=4097795&page=1

The report gives both the good and bad sides of this type of loan and is very informative.

A reverse mortgage is the opposite of what you think of when you think "mortgage." With this loan, the bank makes payments to you based on the equity in your home. You can pull out as little or as much as you want and it is not repayable until death so basically the borrower never has to worry about repayment. It gives you an opportunity to have extra monthly income to help with whatever you might need money for...travel, medical bills, daily living...

If this is something that sounds interesting...check out the GMA report - there is a text version as well as video clip. If you would like to know more about this produce...just let me know and I can point you in the right direction!

My son, the jock!

I have to brag on my child. (Hey this is my blog!!) He is really getting good with a ball (any ball)! Here is one of his Christmas presents, (yes, I know it says 2006 on the picture date :-P) he already had a bat and tee from his birthday, and a basketball goal from the summer, plus a soccer ball, golf club and a football. He has even started watching it all on TV! I think I'm going to be living with a JOCK!! (Grandpa is SO PROUD!!)

Notes from Leigh Anne...

Happy New Year to you all!!

I'm trying to get my head around the fact it is 2008. Where did the 90's go? or even 2000? Was it 8 years ago that we were all worried about y2K and the melt down of all technology? Which, by the way, I didn't totally buy into. I figured that they knew it was coming so somebody, somewhere was working on it. I also figured if I needed to go build an outhouse I could do that in the year 2000 just as easy as I could in 1999.

We had a wonderful Christmas. Santa was good to all! Although the furniture and all our walls, trim, and doors are suffering from Asa and his new tricycle. Not only is this wheel base wider than the ones before, we have now discovered the joy of "I crash." He also got lots of books, craft supplies, blocks and trucks. All such MUSTS for a little boy! The favorites seem to be a basketball game (hit a lever and it shoots a ball) from the dollar tree, and his scissors (we've had a few rounds of "No, you don't cut the furniture"). I guess you can say he isn't exactly high maintenance. But, I'm sure that will change over the next few years. I know Martin's toys are expensive so I'm enjoying this time while Asa's are not!

My birthday was the other day. Asa sang to me for two days "Happy to you" before switching to "Happy to Asa." When I reminded him it was my birthday I got a "Happy to Asa and Mommy" response. Not sure where the birthday part of the song went but it was REALLY cute to listen to him. He also helped me bake my (which promptly became HIS with an occasional OUR) birthday cake. He picked out "Barbie" decorations at the grocery store and Martin had the idea of adding a strawberry jam and pecans as a layer in the middle. I must say it was a really good birthday cake, if I do say so myself!!

Today is back to normal day. We've not really discussed new years resolutions but I keep thinking mine is going to be to run another 5K this year. I've not done that for about 3 years now (pre Asa) and I do miss it! Not so much the competition of the race (I'm usually a strong competitor for last place :-) but just being able to go the distance. One day I'd like to take Asa to the little "tot trots" I think he would like that.

Mommy letter to Santa

Dear Santa ,

I've been a good mom all year. I've fed, cleaned and cuddled my children on demand, visited the doctor's office more than my doctor and sold sixty-two cases of candy bars to raise money to plant a shade tree on the school playground. I was hoping you could spread my list out over several Christmases, since I had to write this letter with my son's red crayon, on the back of a receipt in the laundry room between cycles, and who knows when I'll find anymore free time in the next 18 years. Here are my Christmas wishes: I'd like a pair of legs that don't ache (in any color, except purple, which I already have) and arms that don't hurt or flap in the breeze, but are strong enough to pull my screaming child out of the candy aisle in the grocery store. I'd also like a waist, since I lost mine somewhere. If you're hauling big ticket items this year I'd like fingerprint resistant windows and a radio that only plays adult music, a television that doesn't broadcast any programs containing talking animals, and a refrigerator with a secret compartment behind the crisper where I can hide to talk on the phone.

On the practical side, I could use a talking doll that says, "Yes, Mommy" to boost my parental confidence, along with two kids who don't fight and three pairs of jeans that will zip all the way up without the use of power tools. I could also use a recording of Tibetan monks chanting "Don't eat in the living room" and "Take your hands off your brother," because my voice seems to be just out of my children's hearing range and can only be heard by the dog. If it's too late to find any of these products, I'd settle for enough time to brush my teeth and comb my hair in the same morning, or the luxury of eating food warmer than room temperature without it being served in a Styrofoam container.

If you don't mind, I could also use a few Christmas miracles to brighten the holiday season. Would it be too much trouble to declare ketchup a vegetable? It will clear my conscience immensely. It would be helpful if you could coerce my children to help around the house without demanding payment as if they were the bosses of an organized crime family. Well, Santa, the buzzer on the dryer is calling and my son saw my feet under the laundry room door. I think he wants his crayon back. Have a safe trip and remember to leave your wet boots by the door and come in and dry off so you don't catch cold. Help yourself to cookies on the table but don't eat too many or leave crumbs on the carpet.

Yours Always,
MOM...

P.S. One more thing...you can cancel all my requests if you can keep my children young enough to believe in Santa.
